As from January 25 Move Intermodal has opened an office in Spain in the city of Tarragona. This expansion of the Move group also marks a milestone in Move’s recent history in which it now significantly expands its packed and bulk business to and from Spain and Portugal.
Rail and short-sea services
Tarragona is located on the Spanish Mediterranean coast just 100 kilometer South of Barcelona. The city hosts one of the biggest petrochemical clusters in Southern Europe. Other major business clusters, like rice, ceramics and steel are located not far from there, between the French border and Alicante. These clusters are connected to the Move network via short sea connections from Barcelona to Italy, as well as via rail connections from BE-Antwerp and IT-Milan to both Barcelona and Tarragona. Move Intermodal aims to quickly offer connecting services further into Spain as well as to Portugal, which can also be served via short sea connections to the Benelux.
Rail connections into Iberia are developing rapidly and have proven to be very reliable as the European rail-gauge for cargo trains has already been extended into Barcelona. Plans are in a final stage to also connect Tarragona which would then also result in the building of a new public intermodal terminal.
Operations and business development
The new Move Intermodal Iberia office is located in the new marina in the port of Tarragona. It will mainly focus on business development on the Iberian peninsula as well as the rest of the Mediterranean area. Besides, it will take care of coordination of local operations in Spain and Portugal.
